Why should I join?

A strong PTA has a direct impact on your children and the quality of their school.

The PTA has the ability, more than any other organization, to make a school a better place for your children to learn. By becoming a PTA member, you can help identify the needs of the school and develop solutions that may include: making the school safer, becoming more technologically advanced, and bringing enriched educational opportunities to the school.

When parents are involved in education, student academic performance improves.

Involvement in PTA allows you not only to be involved in your child's education, but also allows you to get to know their teachers better and become more familiar with the school and what goes on there. Even if you do not have a great deal of time to devote to PTA activities, by becoming a member and attending meetings you are showing your children that you believe their school and their education are important!

With your support, our school, teachers and children will have access to excellent learning resources, school supplies, and enrichment opportunities.

The PTA helps to bridge the gap in state funding shortfalls and the financial resources necessary to successfully run BCES.

What has the PTA done for me lately?

The PTA helps build a stronger school community. From funding educational programs to improving the school grounds, PTA members and volunteers do amazing things. Below is a list of just a fraction of what the PTA accomplished during the 2008-09 school year.

  • Provided Family/Community Involvement Events such as the Fall Festival in October, Scholastic Book Fair in February, High School Musical Themed Dance in March, and Spring Carnival in May
  • Organized the school’s FIRST Science Fair
  • Hosted “Tissue and Tears” for Kindergarten Parents during the first week of school
  • Organized a School Beautification Day to improve the exterior grounds and re-paint bathrooms
  • Held Kids Voting Event during the Presidential Election in November
  • Worked with Administration and Wake County Facilities Management to install Playground Shade Structures
  • Raised over $33,000 to fund a number of activities and initiatives, including:
    • Purchased art supplies for Mrs. Murphy, musical instruments for Mrs. Eason, PE equipment for Mr. Miller, and additional supplies and books for Mrs. Lovette in the Media Center
    • Provided grade-level specific “teacher grants” for in-house field trips, online software packages, and literacy materials
    • Each teacher was allotted $200 to purchase supplies at the beginning of the year for individual classroom set up needs
