Each year, the fifth grade makes our pilgrimage to Washington DC to see our nation’s capital. It is a trip that will be in each student’s mind throughout their lifetime. It is a time of bonding. It is a time of learning about our heritage and a tangible reminder of our history. Each student will form a connection with the past that they will use as a basis for their political and patriotic foundation. This base will be the building block of their future thinking of our heritage and their own patriotism. They will see, first hand, how the national capital is a place where our nation makes decisions and keeps a record, a tribute, to our past.

However, as we fall into difficult economic times, making this pilgrimage is becoming more challenging to keep alive. Our 5th grade classes will be doing a variety of activities to try to help with the cost of this trip. Many of our families are unable to cover the $300 cost for their child to attend this three-day, once-in-a-lifetime event. The Brier Creek PTA would like to raise $10,000 to help lower the per person cost for each of the students as well as provide scholarships to those in need.
